The Davis Streng Tracts

Davis is Streng country: from the 1960s into the early 80s, brothers Bill and Jim Streng built several hundred homes here (published figures run from four hundred-plus to nearly a thousand) to designs by architect Carter Sparks — dramatic angled rooflines, atriums, exposed aggregate. “Eichleresque” gets used, but Sparks' work is its own dialect.

Covell Park is the signature concentration, built through the 1970s and early 80s along Spanish-named streets, with smaller clusters in central Davis and West Davis. A university town that bikes everywhere and prizes its modernism — Strengs here sell to people who sought them out.
